Q & A with Dr. Ryan - Vein Care Questions Answered
Once they realize that vein treatments can not only resolve their leg symptoms but also increase their energy and overall health, many people naturally have questions about the procedure. Feeling like it could be “too good to be true,” they want to make sure it’s the right decision for them. While a vein screening is a great way to get started, many still have questions. Here Dr. Ryan answers 5 of the most common questions he receives from patients.
Do treatments work?
With a 15 year + history of treating literally thousands of vein patients, we have a 98% success rate in improving symptoms. Symptoms don’t resolve overnight as healing after treatment takes several weeks, but many patients notice a difference within the first week. Most notice a distinct improvement after 4 weeks. Patients enthusiastically tell us they are symptom-free...often for the first time in years.
Do treatments hurt?
The answer to this varies some, as everyone’s pain tolerance is different, however, most patients are quite comfortable during treatment. They’re able to carry on a conversation and talk or even watch DVDs while undergoing treatment. We use a numbing solution and therefore most people tolerate treatments quite well.
Will I have to miss work?
The treatment time itself takes just over an hour, but you can return to work or exercise in most cases right after the treatment. In fact, there are typically no restrictions on activity, other than wearing compression stockings, and most patients drive themselves to the clinic. We recommend light exercise the first day, then no restrictions next day.
Does insurance cover the procedure?
In most cases, insurance does provide coverage. Everyone’s plan is different, so we’ll need to review your insurance plan with you to know for sure what is covered and what your cost will be. We’ll help you with that, so simply bring your insurance card with you to the initial vein screening. Our insurance specialist will review your plan and let you know what is covered.
What is the risk of blood clots?
The risk for blood clots is extremely low for this procedure, especially because people are able to get up and walk naturally afterwards. Movement (standing and walking) is the most important means to prevent blood clots. As a preventative measure, we check your legs with an ultrasound after each treatment to make sure no blood clots are forming.
Patients tell us that vein treatment restored their self-confidence and gave them back the ability to live life to the fullest. See our checklist of symptoms to find out if a free assessment makes sense for you.
